Macbeth Final Essay

     The book Macbeth written by Shakespeare allows readers to feel and think different emotions and ideas from the beginning to the end of the book. Macbeth himself stops at nothing until he accomplishes his goal until he can’t go on anymore. And in this case, the only motive that actually stopped Macbeth was to kill him and end his life. Throughout the story, you learn that the extremes he goes; for example killing others, is not even enough until he is at the top. The story, Macbeth, revolves around a society where greed can overpower ones desire for their ambition. 

     The first part of the book makes you feel as if Macbeth is weak because of an event that happened to try and make his wife happy. In the story, Lady Macbeth plans, "When Duncan is asleep - and he’ll sleep soundly after his hard day’s journey - I’ll ply his two officers with so much drink their memories will be fogged and their brains addled. When they are drunk and sleeping like pigs, what can’t we do to the unguarded Duncan? What can’t we blame on his sodden officers? They’ll get the blame for our great murder.” (1:7:pg.59) At first, Macbeth was scared and hesitant on killing Duncan because he didn’t really want to, although his wife forced him to do it. Which showed that her mind was more focused on her goal than her husband's feelings about the idea. This gives us a perspective of such a drastic goal from a very persistent lady whose measures went as low to killing a person to get what she wants, which is sad because she’s probably a baby herself to do it .

     During the middle of the story gives you second thoughts on who really is the guilty party to get what they want. Shakespeare wrote as Macbeth, "That's that. Banquo, if your soul is bound for heaven, it will reach there tonight!” (3:1:pg.103). This quote shows that Macbeth wants a person dead to become King, it’s not his wife who did the planning now. He is almost like his wife in the beginning, instead, he hired murderers to do the deed for him; just like his wife wanting him to kill Duncan instead of her. This perspective of Macbeth shows that greed can get in the way of one's ambition if they are that desperate, which is just as sad seeing that he went so low to actually hiring people.

     At the end of the story, it proves that a person will risk their life to getting what they want because their desire for that one goal is all that matters to them in the end. From Macbeth’s perspective, Shakespeare wrote, "I'll fight till the flesh is hacked from my bones! Give me my armor!” (5:3:pg. 185). This quote shows that Macbeth will not give up until he has no flesh left on him, in other words, he’s willing to fight till his death because he’s come so far which motivates him even more to do so. Which is highly comprehensible seeing that at first it was his wife, now him, and now him putting his life on the line to give it his all. He may feel as though giving up means that he has plotted, killed others, and hired to kill others for him will be for nothing so he naturally puts the famous quote “over my dead body” into great use.

Agree. I agree with this statement because women are more known to be thoughtful and gentler than men, most of the time. I say ‘most of the time’ because not all women are the same, they could be aggressive or gentle, or some could be less thoughtful compared to men.

~I had a friend who played with girls’ minds and feelings, but had a maternal figure to push him into the right direction before it was too late.

2.     Witches, demons, and evil spirits actually exist.

Disagree. I’m sure a whole lot of people believe in evil spirits whether they are Catholic/Christian or not. I’m one of those who neither but still believe that evil spirits do exist. Though I’m not too keen on considering witches and demons actually do exist, unless hell counts as being related to demons.

~I called out “Bloody Mary” three times in my bathroom with the lights off and me towards the mirror at night, nothing happened (i was scared s***less though).

3.     Sometimes it is necessary to do something wrong to get what you want.

Agree. Although, this statement depends on your reasoning, ergo “necessary”. If it’s that important for you to bend the rules/laws for the good, then go for it.

~I drove without receiving my permit from the office because my dad was dog tired to continue driving (to be honest, it was only three miles and i didn’t bang anything).

4.     What goes around comes around (karma).

Agree. If someone did something bad or unnecessary, I believe they should get a taste of their own medicine. I think most find it fair for others to be doing bad, get out clean.

~I tripped my sister in the mall and when we got back to the car, I slammed my middle and ring fingers in the door.

5.     Human beings are easily tempted by things they want, even if it’s wrong.

Agree. Though I hate to say it, it’s true because once you lose your self-control, you’re done for. As much as you don’t want to do it, you either do it or at least let the scenario unfold in your mind.

~I was at the bank opening an account and I just thought of a large amount of money stored in the back or upstairs. Of course I didn’t rob the bank, but I did think about it. I couldn’t help it, I have watched many movies that included robbing a bank.

6.     If someone feels that the ruler/s of his/her country is destroying the country, that person should try to overthrow the ruler/s.

Disagree. I understand that one person doesn’t agree with the way one is running the system, but it’s not only you in the country, there are others as well. And they should have an opinion for disliking the system or not.

~Some people still feel as if Zimmerman was guilty during the trial. And I am one of those people. He murdered an adolescent kid, shouldn’t there be justice for his crime?

7.     There are circumstances or events that justify murdering someone.

Agree. It majorly depends on the events that justifies murdering someone. For example, a use of self-defense perhaps?

~I haven’t murdered someone in my life but I have witnessed trials that related to murder. Some defendants came out guilty and some came out innocent. It all depends on the events or even your lawyer/attorney.

8.     Success is worth any price you have to pay.

Agree. If you want to be successful out there, you need a marvelous job. Hopefully one you enjoy doing. But education comes first. And money is part of the education equation.

9.     Kings are appointed by God, and they rule as His representatives on Earth.

Disagree. Kings come on their own free will. They should first get a choice, then get voted in.

~King William is or will be the King of his country due to ancestry, God didn’t choose him.

10.  Your astrological forecast (your horoscope) is a good indicator of how your day will go.

Disagree. I do read them, I just don’t want to believe them. What if it’s great but gives me false hope during the week/day?

11.  Traitors should be executed.

Disagree. It depends on the events and reasoning’s as to why. Not an automatic punishment that doesn’t give them a chance to explain him/herself.

~I went against my parents will and unintentionally got a C instead of an A for my grades. They didn’t execute me, they did ground me though. (*AHEM*JK you’re a cool guy)

1. Is evil inherent in human nature? That is, are some people just “born evil,” or is evil caused by circumstance or environment?

No. Evil is not inherent in human nature. It is merely caused by the environment that one is raised in or the circumstances they undergo. A person has a choice to whether or not they want to be evil unless they are forced to under certain conditions by another. For example, scientists did studies on twins that were in different environments to observe their environmental influences. And after a certain amount of time, they found that even though they were twins, they were the complete opposite. This shows that whatever surroundings one is in, the effects they have in the area affects the person growing up. And even though they are once evil, you still can believe the fact that a person can change if someone is there with them to help them throughout their recovering journey.

2. Are our lives determined by fate, or by the acts of our free will?

Some people believe that God or fate determines our future and lives. But it’s based on the acts of our free will. What we do affects us in both the present and future. High school teachers say that whatever you do in high school will affect you in the future. They’ve been young before so they obviously know what they’re talking about. That’s why they push you to do best you can do in your classes because it will also reflect the person you will be. Regardless if you are already lazy or give up, you can still change.  You can still be that person you’ve been dreaming of but it’s the actions you will take to get there, hence “acts of our free will”.

3. Is redemption truly possible? That is, is it possible to commit an act of genuine evil and truly recover from it?

Redemption is nearly impossible. As said before, it depends on your future actions, motives, and the effect it will have on others. To redeem yourself, it works in a very slow but gradual process. Take each step little by little each day until you’ve taken the further step possible. Then just do those little things here and thereafter. You don’t need to continue to redeem yourself to everyone you stirred wrong because they didn’t believe that your third or fourth try wasn’t enough, as long as you believe that you yourself has become a better person from before, you’re fine. You can be your own clean slate if no one else sees the better in you.

4. Is it possible to admire or respect a person whom you know has committed acts of genuine evil?

Everyone has a brain and a heart. They control what they think and feel. Not anyone else. You can force them to change and stop the admiration and respect they have for a person unless they genuinely feel that him or her self doesn’t deserve their respect. You could try and manipulate the person but your chances are a slim 50/50. So yes, it is possible.

5. Do “the ends justify the means”? That is, if one uses morally evil methods to acquire a goal, is that goal forever tainted or polluted by the actions one has taken to achieve it?

Yes, because that person was willing to go to the extremes to achieve that goal. If it’s a goal that one will stop at nothing to achieve, then they will go to drastic measures just to satisfy him or her self. And in this case, evil methods will come into mind because they want it so bad. It’s not a simple “I want that so I will do the things to get it without being morally wrong in life”. If it was, then we wouldn’t have such strict laws and rules as well as people helping them to enforce it. For example, if a nerdy tech geek wanted all A’s on his transcripts but couldn’t because it was too late for him, then he will use his tech skills to hack into the school’s system and somehow change all of his grades to A’s. And that is a goal he has achieved, but went about it in ways that would require his process tainted.  A forever tainted goal.

The prisoners that were involved in the Holocaust, majority of the Jewish race, had to bear the experience of starving for more than a weak with no food or water that it made them lose faith in living, just how Elies' father felt; he wrote, "I can't go on, my son...Give me some water...".

Elie and other prisoners would always depend on God in the beginning of the story, then when bad things start to happen, they would slowly lose their faith and hope in him in their chance of survival which he stated in his book, “"Where is God? Where is He?” someone behind me asked."

“Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky.”

These two quotes from the book has a repetition of the first four words which emphasizes the fact of what he’s seen and experienced throughout the first few days of the concentration camp is etched into his mind and will never be erased and forgotten. No matter how hard he tries. We don’t take into consideration of the fact that he’s our age and he goes through all that while we just read and try to imagine it ourselves. The difference being that we’re stuck with the thought of it while he’s in stuck with the experience.

“Had I changed so much then? So quickly? Now remorse began to gnaw at me.”

While being at the concentration camp, he slowly realizes that he himself changes as well. Both physically and mentally. He would’ve jumped at the moment his father got hit, but he never did. In other words, what’s important about this quote is the fact that he’s changing at the camp before he realizes it.

“A caption: “Warning. Danger of death.” Mockery: was there a single place here where you were not in danger of death?”

The importance of this quote is the indeed mockery of it. The situation he’s in shows that even though he’s in the worst case scenario thought possible, he could add in a tiny, small ounce of humor. Being that fact that it’s a life/death situation, he goes on and sees what god and fate has for him.

They were not only stripped of their important valuables in the beginning, they were now known as letters and/or numbers. The lost their identity seeing that they were not human beings in the eyes of the Germans anymore.

Elie Wiesel

         World War II is known for being one of the most devastating, costly events in history. With an unstable Germany on the rise lead by Adolf Hitler, many lost their lives to what most today see as one of the most catastrophic incidents to ever happen. Elie Wiesel, current day writer and Nobel Prize winner, is most known for his works on his survival of the Holocaust in World War II. Wiesel, at a young age, was taken from his Jewish home in Transylvania (later to be named Romania) and moved to concentration camps with his family. Being one of the active survivors of the Holocaust, he has given speeches, written books, and taught about his experiences and hardships. His most known work, La Nuit, was published in 1958 and was the first to include his memories during the war. After having such success with the first book, he continued on to write forty more books with the same basic information and experiences included in the previous, educating people around the world of the encounters commonly found during the Holocaust.

            Wiesel’s purpose for sharing his knowledge with the world is to inform and educate everyone of the struggles and hardships that people experienced during the war, specifically in the perspective of the Jews. Thanks to his survival and writing skills, Wiesel has published over forty books, delivered speeches, and taught classes about the Holocaust, as well as events that lead up and followed. He also does classes and seminars on Jewish practices and studies for those who want to learn more. Thanks to his activism in today’s society, people can learn more about the Holocaust and World War II, as well as the impact it could have on an individual if something like this were to reoccur.

Dear Cab Hawaii,

You are well known to the island of Oahu for providing a mode of transportation to not just only the residents of the island, but to the tourists who take the time to choose to enjoy their time here. You make it an easier way for the people to get from one destination to another faster than the bus.

Despite all of this, the routes I've have been taken to get to many of my destinations have been brought to my attention. About a month or two ago, I had a very important assignment to complete for school which was located at Pearlridge Shopping Center. My current location to get to Pearlridge was Waikele Premium Outlets so I could make it more convenient for my cab driver to pick me up from instead of my residential street. I somewhat remember that I got picked up within the time restraint given to me over the phone 
when calling for a cab. I do, however, clearly remember the route I was taken to get to my destination. And I was not very impressed with the route nor the ride.

Once I got into the cab, My driver confirmed and my name and destination in a pleasant way. But once we hit our first road while leaving, I noticed that I may given off my impression as a non-resident who wasn’t familiar with the island because he didn’t go straight to the freeway where we were aware of no traffic whatsoever, according to the radio. No, he went down Paiwa St. and kept going, passing the exit to the freeway and going straight to Kamehameha Highway. I was slowly feeling agitated because every time we were close to a stoplight, he would unusually slow down until the light turned yellow then red. And every time that happened, the price of my ride, located on the dashboard, kept rising. And all I could think about was the fact that he could’ve continued to actually go the speed limit he was always at.

So we arrived at Pearlridge within 25-30 minutes because he had "thought" I had said Uptown rather than Downtown when I clearly stated Downtown before we left Waikele. According to Google Maps, the longest a ride would ever have to take that was relative to my current location and destination was 15 to 20 minutes.

You may say that it is up to the cabdriver as to which route should be taken, but it should be automatic logic to take the quickest way to the destination. It is estimated that at least 87% percent of people would rather agree with the term, “the sooner the better’ or “the earlier the better”. It resembles the phrase, better safe than sorry. You’d rather be safe and be early rather than being sorry because you were late. Whether the situation varies from long routes to their destination or shipping of the items they order. What’s the point in taking a cab when the length of the ride would be as long as taking the bus? You’re taking the same long amount of time as a bus but paying more. I mean, you might as well take the bus right? Since it’s cheaper and the length of the ride would be the same as taking a cab. People see the cab more as an express bus. But it’s faster. Sure it may be more costly, but you’re getting there faster.
I understand economy nowadays is tough and being a working teenager I can say a lot. But cab drivers earn a lot considering their benefits. Not only do they get paid for their whole trip each time they drive their customer, they also receive tips. As well as being an employee; you also obtain a weekly or monthly salary while being employed at the CabHawaii.

I hope my letter not only thought of you to make slight changes to informing your employees about taking shorter routes, but understanding the fact that not only should you advise your drivers on taking shorter routes for residents, but for those who don't reside on the island as well. Tourism is one of Hawaii's biggest investments and it would be a shame for them to go back home and explain to their family that the rides they used to travel was long and expensive for them. Because then that would slowly but surely take away money from the state as well as turn customers away from using your company as a mode of transportation. Which no one would ever want for their company.

I hope that my letter had shed some light on an issue that occasionally happens to not just me, but to others also. And urges you to make immediate changes by some form of great action to keep your company in business.

Risky Business Final Essay

Did you know that suicide is the third leading cause of death among children, teens and young adults?  Every year almost 125,000 children are brought to emergency rooms to receive treatment for injuries inflicted while attempting suicide. Girls think about and attempt suicide about twice as often as boys, and tend to attempt suicide by overdosing on drugs or cutting themselves. Yet boys die by suicide about four times as often girls, perhaps because they tend to use more lethal methods, such as firearms, hanging, or jumping from heights. The rates of teen suicide increases by the minute due to many issues such as family related issues, mood disorders and even bullying; which needs to be taken into consideration without delay.

There are a variety of reasons as to why teens feel need to commit or attempt suicide. According to Dr. Robert Wallace from creators.com, family factors are the most commonly cited cause; whether there had been a death, or divorce, or even financial problems, it slowly but surely makes a teens life turn a 180 within a matter of time. Being a teenager to have to deal with those problems in life is difficult to cope with; yet no teen should feel the need of having to resort to suicide. They feel as if dying is the only way of coping with their issue instead of dealing with it while being alive. Having a family related issue that leaves you in the need of committing suicide branches out from not just being only you, but to others who have the same problem and think that they should consider it as well.

Mood disorders is just another term for being bipolar and not only is it a symptom leading to depression, but it’s also a risk factor leading teens into attempting suicide. Mood disorders are reported to be the most common psychiatric illnesses in children and adolescents who attempt or commit suicide. Us teens may say that being bipolar is a normal disorder any teen will come across, but it’s not, it’s a condition that hints out to others that surround the teen to show that they are dealing with a certain crisis. It’s a silent universal sign from them that something is wrong and needed to be said in words rather than kept in their mind. Knowing that mood disorders is a common sign within teens who consider suicide, it shows that people everywhere need to take serious note of the symptom and contribute into preventing those who aren’t or are affected.

Being bullied doesn’t just give a student a hard time in focusing in school or at home, but majorly affects their intuition on living. Back in September, 12 year-old Rebecca Sedwick committed suicide due to bullying; both verbal-bullying and cyber-bullying. Being the personal punching bag on a bully brings out insecurities in one that can slowly be less tolerable than before; which what probably happened to Sedwick. Bullying is one of the vilest thing a person could do to one, and not caring about their life sentence; whether considering suicide or not; just brings it to an all-time low. Knowing that bullying causes some teens death, or if not more, doesn’t matter, what matters is the fact that their willing to put their life at risk without even completing at least 25% of their life span to explore other options that the world had to offer; only because they cut themselves short by someone who hadn’t given them an ounce of care to feel empathetic because their too pathetic themselves to even care.

There are different ways to approach the issue to slowly solve it, whether it’s to build and spread more common hotlines within the nation, or setting up multiple classes within a state for teens to push themselves or be pushed to join and get help. But it’s up to us as bystanders to take an action and make the first move. That way the common causes, family factors, mood disorders, and bullying, would be dead to the world. And the only way to close off the issue is to take it one step at a time slowly but surely to lessen the suicides each year.

Did you know that suicide is the third leading cause of death among children, teens and young adults?  Every year almost 125,000 children are brought to emergency rooms to receive treatment for injuries inflicted while attempting suicide. Girls think about and attempt suicide about twice as often as boys, and tend to attempt suicide by overdosing on drugs or cutting themselves. Yet boys die by suicide about four times as often girls, perhaps because they tend to use more lethal methods, such as firearms, hanging, or jumping from heights. The rates of teen suicide increases by the minute due to many issues such as family related issues, mood disorders and even bullying; which needs to be taken into consideration without delay.

There are a variety of reasons as to why teens feel need to commit or attempt suicide. According to Dr. Robert Wallace from creators.com, family factors are the most commonly cited cause; whether there had been a death, or divorce, or even financial problems, it slowly but surely makes a teens life turn a 180 within a matter of time. Being a teenager to have to deal with those problems in life is difficult to cope with; yet no teen should feel the need of having to resort to suicide. They feel as if dying is the only way of coping with their issue instead of dealing with it while being alive. Having a family related issue that leaves you in the need of committing suicide branches out from not just being only you, but to others who have the same problem and think that they should consider it as well.

Mood disorders is just another term for being bipolar and not only is it a symptom leading to depression, but it’s also a risk factor leading teens into attempting suicide. Mood disorders are reported to be the most common psychiatric illnesses in children and adolescents who attempt or commit suicide. Us teens may say that being bipolar is a normal disorder any teen will come across, but it’s not, it’s a condition that hints out to others that surround the teen to show that they are dealing with a certain crisis. It’s a silent universal sign from them that something is wrong and needed to be said in words rather than kept in their mind. Knowing that mood disorders is a common sign within teens who consider suicide, it shows that people everywhere need to take serious note of the symptom and contribute into preventing those who aren’t or are affected.

Being bullied doesn’t just give a student a hard time in focusing in school or at home, but majorly affects their intuition on living. Back in September, 12 year-old Rebecca Sedwick committed suicide due to bullying; both verbal-bullying and cyber-bullying. Being the personal punching bag on a bully brings out insecurities in one that can slowly be less tolerable than before; which what probably happened to Sedwick. Bullying is one of the vilest thing a person could do to one, and not caring about their life sentence; whether considering suicide or not; just brings it to an all-time low. Knowing that bullying causes some teens death, or if not more, doesn’t matter, what matters is the fact that their willing to put their life at risk without even completing at least 25% of their life span to explore other options that the world had to offer; only because they cut themselves short by someone who hadn’t given them an ounce of care to feel empathetic because their too pathetic themselves to even care.

Dear Cab Hawaii,

You are well known to the island of Oahu for providing a mode of transportation to not just only the residents of the island, but to the tourists who take the time to choose to enjoy their time here. You make it an easier way for the people to get from one destination to another faster than the bus.

Despite all of this, the routes I've have been taken to get to many of my destinations have been brought to my attention. About a month or two ago, I had a very important assignment to complete for school which was located at Pearlridge Shopping Center. My current location to get to Pearlridge was Waikele Premium Outlets so I could make it more convenient for my cab driver to pick me up from instead of my residential street. I somewhat remember that I got picked up within the time restraint given to me over the phone when calling for a cab. I do, however, clearly remember the route I was taken to get to my destination. And I was not very impressed with the route nor the ride.

Once I got into the cab, My driver confirmed and my name and destination in a pleasant way. But once we hit our first road while leaving, I noticed that I may given off my impression as a non-resident who wasn’t familiar with the island because he didn’t go straight to the freeway where we were aware of no traffic whatsoever, according to the radio. No, he went down Paiwa St. and kept going, passing the exit to the freeway and going straight to Kamehameha Highway. I was slowly feeling agitated because every time we were close to a stoplight, he would unusually slow down until the light turned yellow then red. And every time that happened, the price of my ride located on the dashboard kept rising. And all I could think about was the fact that he could’ve continued to actually going the speed limit he was always at.

So we arrived at Pearlridge within 25-30 minutes because he had "thought" I had said Uptown rather than Downtown when I clearly stated Downtown before we left Waikele. According to Google Maps, the longest a ride would ever have to take that was relative to my current location and destination was 15 to 20 minutes.

I understand economy nowadays is tough and being a working teenager I can say a lot. But cab drivers earn a lot considering their benefits. Not only do they get paid for their whole trip each time they drive their customer, they also receive tips. As well as being an employee; you also obtain a weekly or monthly salary while being employed at the CabHawaii.

I hope my letter not only thought of you to make slight changes to informing your employees about taking shorter routes, but understanding the fact that not only should you advise your drivers on taking shorter routes for residents, but for those who don't reside I the island also. Tourism is one of Hawaii's biggest investments and it would be a shame for them to go back home and explain to their family that the rides they used to travel was long and expensive for them. Because then that would slowly but surely take away money from the state as well as turn customers away from using your company as a mode of transportation. Which no one would ever want for their company.

I hope that my letter had shed some light on an issue that occasionally happens to not just me, but to others away. And urges you to make immediate changes by some form of great action to keep your company in business but addressing your address to the other side of your helpful solution.
